The Latest Updates from Collaborative Hardball
Notes from an ongoing conversation
Dear Sisters and Friends,
It’s been a little while since Collaborative Hardball: Using the Power of a New Negotiation as Women to Change the World first came into the world, and I wanted to share a small update with you.
The truth is, the launch was only the beginning of what I believe is becoming a rich and expanding exploration, one that I hope you will continue to follow and be part of.
Here are a few updates:
As You May Have Heard, the Collaborative Hardball Podcast is officially underway.
The introductory episode is out, and Episode 2: Negotiation is Power is now live, featuring a wonderful conversation with Zoe Chance, author of Influence Is Your Superpower and a senior lecturer at the Yale School of Management. This episode expands on the themes of the first chapter of my book: Negotiation is Power! (Unfortunately, the podcast episode numbers are off by one because Spotify wouldn’t let us label the Intro as Episode 0. Ah well:)
Each podcast episode will move chronologically through the book, deepening the themes chapter by chapter through new voices, perspectives, and lived experience.
Zoe and I explore negotiation as something far broader than a business skill about numbers or money but rather a fundamental human capacity that shapes power, relationships, and the way we move through the world.
I’m also very excited about the next two guests. The renowned Starhawk and I will use Chapter 2, The Patriarchy Hex as our point of departure to explore the rise of patriarchy thousands of years ago, how this system of power has undermined women in leadership and negotiation, and how we can move beyond it. In the following episode, three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee Scilla Elworthy and I will expand on Chapter 3, Get Comfortable with Conflict, a critical skill especially for women who have been socialized to avoid conflict rather than engage it constructively. Specifically, we’ll talk about Scilla’s work on “How Women Stop Armed Conflict” and much more. Stay tuned.
You can listen on Substack, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you listen.
Something new: Live Zoom conversations for paid Substack subscribers.
For each podcast episode, I’m hosting a live Zoom conversation: a space for paid subscribers to gather, reflect, and bring these ideas into our own relationships, decisions, leadership, and negotiations.
Not just in reading.
Not just in listening.
But in the space where we can think together.
This probably excites me most. The book and the podcast are the seed — but the conversations are where the ideas take root. The next zoom conversation will take place after my interview with Starhawk and we’ll explore both The Patriarchy Hex chapter and the podcast episode. If you’d like to be part of that, you can become a paid subscriber here.
A note for the readers among you...
If you haven’t yet had a chance to read Collaborative Hardball, I would love for you to do so. And if you’ve already read it — even just parts of it, and it has resonated with you, a review on Amazon would mean a great deal to me.
Reviews are how books like this find their way into more hands. It doesn’t have to be long. A few honest sentences make all the difference.
Thank you, as always, for being part of this with me. We are living through a strange and difficult moment in the world, and I am genuinely heartened to be in conversation with all of you as we work out, together, what it looks like to lead, negotiate, and relate differently.
With gratitude,
